Last Slice

Today's the last slice,
I think it's sad as can be.
I know I'm not alone,
For there are others like me.

Today's the last slice,
Boy it's been a struggle,
To post every day,
Though it's harder to juggle

Today's the last slice,
It's been so much fun!
To read other slices,
Some about the sun.

Today's the last slice,
I don't want it to end,
But at least we get soda,
And Starbucks, to blend.

Today's the last slice,
We've done it everyone,
We've sliced everyday,
In the rain or the sun.

We're Done!

P.S. My mom and I were able to go to all 18 pools!

Every Single Pool

Yesterday, my mom and I decided that we would go to every single hot tub/ pool at Pagosa Hot Springs. The Springs has a total of 23 pools, 18 that I will be able to go to (5 are 18 years and over); so far we have been to 9 of the pools, exactly half way. Even if the pools are too hot, my mom and I have decided that we will stick our foot in and that will count. Today, I hope to complete our challenge by going to the rest of the pools that are open to me at The Springs. We will not be able to go to every single pool because, as I mentioned earlier, there are a few pools that are 18 and over only. Either way, I hope to go to every pool that I can; I'll give you the total in tomorrow's slice.

Handmade

I love handmade everything. I also enjoy hand making things. I much prefer to hand make someone a card than get them a store bought card. One of my favorite stores is called 10,000 Villages. 10,000 Villages is a store that sells fair-trade handmade cards, trinkets, ,jewelry and decor from many different countries. I love to look around the store at the chess sets and everything else just to see the pure beauty of everything handmade. I feel like handmade things are disappearing. Nobody seems to mail letters anymore or make someone something; everything is store bought or factory made. I find that handmade things are much more beautiful. I like to think of the person sitting on the floor, stitching bead by bead to make a purse or painting beautiful flowers on to a handmade plate. Handmade might take a while, but it is so much more personal than something that was made by a machine. Mistakes are another thing I love about handmade things; they show that it was made by a human, and that doesn't happen much anymore.

Pagosa Springs

Today, my family and I are going to Pagosa Springs. We have not been on a vacation for a long time, so we are all very excited. We don't go on vacations very often because I swim so much. My coach said that going to Pagosa would actually be a good idea because I have been working so hard and suggested that I take a week or so off. While I am in Pagosa, I will be taking a grand total of (drum roll please)... 4 days off from swimming! I will still swim 3 half hour workouts, just so I don't completely forget how to swim, but they won't be difficult workouts. I can't wait to go soak in the hot springs. I love the hot springs because the pools are all natural and you feel like you are far away from your life at home, but it's only a 4-5 hour drive, which isn't short, but it isn't long either. I'm so excited!

Commenting

Commenting is my favorite part of slicing. I really enjoy reading other peoples slices and then commenting on them. I enjoy reading the slices and commenting because some slices are really funny and are often beautifully written. I try to comment on as many as I can, especially on "slicers" I don't know very well.  I also enjoy reading peoples comments on my slices. I feel like commenting is a way to connect with people through blogging, I actually think that's the whole reason there is the option to comment. Great job slicing everyone, and have a good spring break!

My First Time at EC

Today, I went to EC for the first time. I have never been to EC because my mom has always been at school 10 if not 20 minutes early. Today, my mom had a meeting and my dad was at work so I had to go to EC. As I said earlier, I have never been to EC so I honestly had no idea what to do. At first, I just sat on the couch uncomfortably because my shoes were soaking wet, but then I got bored, so I played Connect 4 with Ellie (Sindler). By the time we had snacks at about 4:00 PM, I had lost several times. After that, Ellie introduced me to the game Yahtzee, which I had never played before; it was really fun. When we were in the middle of our intense game, (okay it wasn't that intense, but still) my mom came to pick me up. It didn't feel like it had been that long, but almost an hour had gone by. My first time at EC was really fun, I'd write more about it, but I am really tired right now and can't wait to get into bed.

Thanks for reading!

What to write... what to write...

My inspiration has decided to take a break today and is going on strike. So now, I don't know what to write about. Nothing has happened at school (because we haven't had school), and nothing has happened at swimming either (swim practice was canceled last night as well because of the snow). Now the only option is to write about something else, but that won't work because my inspiration has decided to go on strike! I guess that's not the only option because I'm writing something right now, maybe that means my inspiration is working, but I don't think so because it specifically told me it was going on strike. Well, hopefully my inspiration is off strike tomorrow, because, otherwise, I'm out of luck.

Opposites

We are opposites,
Of that there is no doubt.
We like different things
But that's what I'm all about.

We are opposites,
Of that I am confident.
I like to sing,
And you love to bling.

We are opposites,
It is so true.
You like pink,
And I love blue.

We are opposites,
It's not hard to see.
You like peas,
And I like ice cream.

We are opposites,
But it's okay,
We both like the bay.

We are opposites,
We both know it.
But it doesn't stop us,
Watch our friendship grow.

Quotes

I love quotes. I sometimes spend entire afternoons just looking at them. One of my favorites is by Dr. Seuss, "Why fit in, when you were born to stand out?". My favorite quotes are inspirational ones, but I also like funny quotes. I enjoy finding quotes because I feel like they are something I can say to myself to make me feel better and they can also motivate me. I feel like quotes are very powerful, I think that quotes are something to live by, and they can also make me feel better about myself and build my confidence. I love quotes, before I get on the blocks at a swim meet, I will always recite a quote for good luck, quotes are part of my life, my life would be very different without quotes.

Mistakes

Mistakes are what shape you into being who you are. Mistakes can often teach you more than an actual lesson can. The thing with mistakes is that you can't be too hard on yourself; if you can't laugh at yourself or get help to fix your mistake, you will not be able to go through life without stress. Sometimes you will make a huge mistake, maybe with a friend, and it will seem like you have made the biggest mistake in the world and there is no possible way to fix it. Step back and look at the whole picture, you can fix a mistake no matter how big it is, and you will most likely end up laughing at yourself later in life. Mistakes are not bad, they are how you can make light of life, how you learn. Once you have made a mistake, you will might make it again, but you will continue o learn from it.  Mistakes perfect you.

Purple

Purple is my favorite color, and, as far as I can tell, will be for the rest of my life. Purple hasn't always been my favorite color though. Until 1st grade, my favorite color was pink.. I loved pink more than you could ever imagine. I loved pink and Hello Kitty; if I had those two things, I was happy. At the end of 1st grade and through 2nd grade, my favorite color was black. I'm not exactly sure why, but I liked it. From 2nd grade until now, my favorite color has been purple. Purple is also my dad's favorite color. I've always thought that it was cool how he likes purple. That may have been why I then liked purple, but, either way, I have loved purple ever since.

Math

Why do we have math? Why should we have it? We're not going to use it later in life unless we become mathematicians, are we? The truth is, math is a wonderful and magical thing. It helps us learn to problem solve and gives us that feeling of accomplishment and those "ah ha!" moments. Okay sure, we might not use math all the time depending on what we decide to become or do later in life, but math will help us while shopping at the grocery store to figure out if the 10lb bag of potatoes is less expensive than the 20lb bag. By doing math, we will know how to problem solve and know when to ask for help and who to ask. Yes, math may seem like a useless tool that we will never use, but the truth is, we will use it. Whether you become an Olympian, a doctor or an artist, you will use it, I promise.

When I Found Out I Was Allergic to Dogs

When I was younger, I would go over to my grandparents house when I had a cold because my parents both had to go to work. My grandparents have 2 dogs (this was before we knew I was allergic to dogs). When my parents would come pick me up from my grandparents house, I would always be more congested that I was when they dropped me off. One time, after my parents had picked me up, I went to bed, and in the middle of the night my parents heard me wheezing, they woke me up and took me to the ER. I was 2 1/2 at the time and had absolutely no idea what was going on and that there was a possibility that I could die. My parents were both freaking out, while the doctors hooked me up to oxygen. In a few weeks, we got in to see an allergist to see what it was that caused my lungs to close up and stop me from breathing. It turned out that I am severely allergic to dogs (and many other things but I found that out later). They measure your allergic reaction on a scale of 1-4 (4 being the worst) and it turns out that I am a 4+, meaning that my allergy is so bad they were unable to measure it on their scale.

Inspiration

Inspiration. This is what motivates us to do anything and everything. But how far can inspiration go? Is it always good? Inspiration can drive us to become anything and do anything, but those things aren't always good, are they? Inspiration can lead us to become terrorists, but it can also lead us to become police officers, Olympic athletes or architects. As children, we are told to do what inspires us; but should we always? What if we are inspired to do something that will hurt others, or what if we are inspired to do something that will help people as a whole? How far can inspiration go? How far should it go? People want us to be inspired to come up with new ideas, but what if inspiration leads us to become terrorists? Should we limit our inspiration? What should inspire us to do amazing things?  What does inspire us?

Day Light Savings Time

I do not like day light savings time. It feels like I am waking up and hour earlier and then I just feel drowsy the rest of the day. Why do we have day light savings time? Arizona doesn't, why should we? I believe that daylight savings time should not exist, partly, because risk of heart attacks and car accidents go up by 10% during the first week of daylight savings, and partly because it makes me really tired, REEEEEAAAAALLLLLYYYYY tired. All that daylight savings time does is kill people(literally) and make the survivors really tired, so why should it exist in some states, and why is Colorado one of them?!?!?!? I do not like daylight savings time, in fact, you could say I hate it.

Ice Cream

Ice cream is creamy,
So rich and creamy,
It makes me feel warmer,
Though I know it is cold.

Ice cream is yummy,
So deliciously yummy,
It makes my taste buds tingle ,
But I can get a brain freeze.

Ice cream colorful
The colors are bright,
They make me want to eat,
All through the night.

Ice cream comes in cones,
The cone's the best part,
It's crunchy and yummy,
And makes me feel smart.

Ice cream is a food,
With amazing flavors,
Cinnamon and strawberry and so many more,
They're all super yummy,
To fill your tummy.

Music

I love music. Whenever I listen to it, my whole body tingles, just like little tiny butterflies landing on me and then taking off again. Music is an incredible thing. If you are deaf, you can still be an amazing musician just by feeling the vibrations. I think music can also help people focus and block out other noises. Music is really an incredible thing, if you can't talk you can still sing and if you can't hear, you can still feel the vibrations and play music. Music is not only fun to listen to, but I find it fun to play as well, even if I am not very good, I think it is fun to mess around on the piano, or guitar. What do you like about music?

Cozy Sweaters

I LOVE cozy sweaters. They are really soft (well they have to be in order to be cozy), and they make me feel like I am wearing pajamas, even though I'm not. I especially like that I don't have to do anything but put it on and leave the house; I don't have to steam it out, or anything else like that. I also like sweaters that are very bright colored; I like bright colored ones because they brighten things up and can make it feel like it is Spring, even though it is winter. I really enjoy wearing sweaters around the house and even to swim meets. I just love cozy sweaters!

Light

The light shows through the window and onto the pool. My feet stand still on the blocks, I hear the starter. I see my feet leave the blocks and I dive in. I feel the cold rush of water. I see through the water crystal clear, the light shows through water and warms my back. I see a rainbow on the bottom of the pool, the tiles turn all different colors; it is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. Each tile turns into a different color, with light reflecting off the metal bottom, making the bottom of the pool into a bright white, no longer a dark and depressing gray. When I get out of the pool, the whole world is a different color. Each individual color stands out, each one a different shade. Not one color is the same. Each one stands out. Nothing is the same.

My Dream House

My dream house would have an Olympic size pool; it would also have a diving board and water slides. I would be able to convert the pool from long course, to short course. I would also be able to adjust the temperature of the pool and my house would have hot tubs. My dream house would be on the edge of an ocean,  so I would be able to swim in the ocean as well as my pool. It would also have a huge roof-top deck to look down onto the ocean. My bedroom would have sky lights, and a loft bed with bean-bag chairs and a desk underneath it. My bedroom walls would be painted a calming purple and I would have paintings of waves and other forms of water on the walls. I'm not exactly sure what else my dream house would have, but I know that it would have all of those components.

My Biggest Pet Peeve

I couldn't choose my biggest  pet peeve to write about, so I chose to write about my top 10, I would write about all of them, but I think I have about 50.

2. People that read out loud while typing

3. Noisy eaters

6. People who chew their gum loudly

7. People who don't cover their mouth while coughing or sneezing

8. People who are always late

9. Overuse of the word "like"

10. People who use the "literally" incorrectly

Spring is Here

Spring is here
There's no denying it
The birds are singing,
Spring is Springing!

Spring is here
I'm so excited!
The grass is greener,
And the world seems cleaner.

Spring is here,
So why are you waiting?
Let's get out and play!

Allergies

I hate allergies, but sadly, I have a total of 64 allergies. Because of this I get allergy shots. They are incredibly painful and I can not stand them, I used to have to get them 2 a week, but now I I get them about once a month. Getting shots less often is nice, but it only means you react to the serum more, so your arm swells up more. Lovely. I'm not aloud to to do anything athletic within 24 hours of getting the shot, meaning I can't swim the day I get a shot. I am also required to stay at the clinic for 20 minutes after I get the shot, because if the swelling gets bigger than the size of my palm, I've got a problem. Even though I can not stand allergy shots and would rather do anything else except go to get an allergy shot. They do help me control allergies and keep me out of the hospital so... I can play both sided of the argument pretty well I guess.

Things to Write about When you Don't Know What to Write About

I didn't know what to write about today, so I figured I might as well come up with some ideas, but once I came up the ideas, I wasn't sure which one to choose, so I decided that I could just make a list of things to write about when I don't know what to write about.
1. Allergies, allergy shots and how I can't stand them but get them anyway because they help control my allergies.

2. My favorite sport, why I love it.

3. The worst present I have ever received.

4. My biggest pet peeve.

5. My dream house.

6. The pet I would get if I wasn't allergic to every pet that exists!

7. What is happiness?

8. If I could change the world in one way, how would I change it?

10 Things I Believe:

1. I believe that doggy paddle should become a USA swimming event

2. I believe that girls should wear helmets while playing lacrosse

4. I believe that Unicorns are real and not all of them are PINK!

5. I believe that girls should be included in the draft

6. I believe that rolling down hills should be an Olympic event

7. I believe that making up words should be a profession

8. I believe that there should be a word for singing (badly) through headphones in the Oxford English Dictionary

9. I believe that there should be a certain color assigned for every day of the week

10. I believe that there should be a day where teachers do not have to teach, but kids can still come to school and do whatever they want.

The Swim Meet Life

This weekend, I have a 3 day swim meet, one of the most tiring things that exists on planet earth; okay that's a little exaggerated, but still! People say it is a form of parental abuse, I'm not kidding, you can get that printed on a shirt. I must say though, I am pretty happy, I have the afternoon session, and only have one race a day; even better, I have the first race each day! That doesn't make it much less tiring though. Okay then, that's all I have to say for now. Day 1, and done, only 2 more days to go.

Lollipop's

I love lollipops
How 'bout you?
You should love lollipops,
They're good for you!

They come in all colors,
Bright, and pale too,
So I love lollipops,
How 'bout you?

They come in all shapes,
Round, square,
And even a Q,
So I love lollipops,
So should you!

They come in all flavors,
Some sour, Some sweet,
I love lollipops,
And you love meat.

Now that I've told you,
What lollipops do,
I love lollipops,
Why don't you?

My Life and Swimming

I have always loved the water, ever since I was little, I took lessons and immediately fell in love with it. When I was in first grade, I was bullied and felt horrible about myself, I didn't want to go to school, I didn't even want to be alive, I was scared. But when I went to swimming, my mind was cleared, I imagined that all my worries were going down the drain. It was like I was caught in a cage, that was suddenly unlocked and I was freed, freed from all the mean things that were said, the actions that were made and I could focus. This was when I realized that I truly loved swimming, and I wanted to dedicate my life to it.

A Real Slice of Life

By AJ McLaughlin
What would a real slice of life look like? Would it change depending on what was going on in your life?  What would it be made out of, cake, pie, ice cream, or could it even be a cupcake? Would there be frosting? Maybe different layers, for different parts of your life. They could be different flavors, depending on what's happening in each part of your life. Maybe your slice could replicate where you are on vacation, like a beach or a mountain. What would your slice look like?
